This PSU studio project entailed choosing a local labor union and designing a new building through exploration of labor union typology. Situated on a corner lot on East Burnside and 17th, this building facade engages the busy intersection and pedestrian traffic, with immediate access to public transportation. Importantly, this building also acts as a community center comprised of interior and exterior lounge areas, a large teaching workshop for woodworking, a conference room, and administrative offices. The second floor includes a small bar and a large, flexible auditorium space that can be opened up to adjoin the rooftop deck, and the bench seating can be stored under the stage as needed to accommodate a wide range of functions.
